Other Thoughts: I have had three different models before this one, Dell, HP and Toshiba. I normally buy expecting them to last for a minimum of four years. I travel, and I can be pretty rough on them. The Dell, a Vista model, actually still works, an HP that lasted five years, until I had to replace due to it being outdated and sluggish in performance, the latest model was a Toshiba, Intel 7 5500U, 12 GB of RAM, 1 TB HDD. Had to replace after two years because it finally died, battery wouldn't hold a charge, had some hardware issues that I finally had to have looked at. My local computer guy told me it would cost more to fix then what it was worth. I research and read reviews before I buy...don't want to make a an impulse buy. I go out and see them in the 'big box' stores and use the keyboard and touchpad, get a feel of the installed chip and features advertised. I normally buy based on my need and weigh the cost I can afford to spend. Wants are items I would like to have, but are not necessarily needed when it comes down to what I have set aside for my budget. Performance and brand reputation are important considerations to me, so customer reviews can be valuable in considering my next purchase. Again, there are wants and needs, backlight keyboard is a want, not necessarily a need.... Reviews and customer satisfaction are very important to me when making a choice. If I see a bunch of negative reviews, that's a good indicator that may not be a good choice. I expect to see a few negatives, can't please everyone all things being considered. I felt I had to review this model because I didn't think it was getting a fair shake. This Lenovo rig cost less then all of my previous rigs ($439 new) and blows all of them away. I see that some people bash this laptop based on fan noise, Windows 10 installation and no backlight keyboard. If these things are important to you, then you didn't research your purchase enough. This laptop is great for handling many applications, tasks and web based programs/research all at once (Word/Excel/Acrobat PDF/PPT/Web), and some light gaming. If you are into CAD based heavy work, this may not be the best choice. The thing is you have to get the latest downloads from Microsoft and get it updated once you set it up for the first time. This will take some time based on your current internet provider...took me about 4 1/2 hours. Once you do that it is quite snappy and fast. You need to keep up on the latest downloads, which will be automatic if you have Win 10 Home version. Don't forget you need to go in and remove any of the unwanted programs, set up what starts when you power up...most programs on the computer will automatically start running in the background (enable) when you power up, and some typically don't need to be. Microsoft lets you choose what you want to start in the set up feature in the enable/disable of Windows (settings). This will greatly affect your start up time. Mine boots and is ready to go in 52 seconds. I run multiple applications between Word, Excel, PPT, Acrobat (PDF) files and have at least six internet tabs open at once. I experience no slow downs, bottlenecks or degraded performance. The fan hardly runs, and I experience no heat issues. I teach class on-line and the AMD A12 handles the bandwidth/tasks with ease. I prefer the AMD line over the Intel line, but that is just me. You can get more battery life by using the conservation mode and limiting the number of times you need to charge. The Lenovo Vantage app walks you through that. Another consideration is what anti-virus to run, some come pre-loaded with trial versions, Mcafee, Norton, etc., Win 10 comes with its own version of anti-virus, Windows Defender. Combine this with Malwarebytes and you have a solid defense against viruses, malware and phishing. Norton and Mcaffe can be a bit of a hog sometimes, again personal preference. You need to be smart when you get on the web and where you go. The Lenovo brand scores higher in customer satisfaction, keyboard design/performance and reputation. If you need a laptop that handles medium task well this is a great choice for the money...if you want the added features of a backlight keyboard, faster storage (SSD) you will have to shell out the extra money for one. Just be realistic when you decide on one that doesn't have those features based on what your budget is and what you REALLY need out of the laptop. Hope this helps all that read.

I have a 5 year old dual core low spec desktop with 4GB RAM that is faster than this.

Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: With an APU 8GB of ram and 1 TB hard drive this laptop is a good candidate if you need something your not going to have to upgrade and will get you buy 2-3 years or more for general use Lenovo and IBM thinkpads Are made by the same team although im not fan of the thinkpad line they have a reputation for not going quietly and I would expect the same durability in this line
Cons: Windows 10 , Im not going to bash on windows 10 some people have good reason to like it , I... do not . Anyway only real issues was i got this laptop for a friend they were super stoked, i was disappointed there were several hrs of updates and set up before they could even get a look at the desktop
Other Thoughts: Laptop seems solid and snappy, However, if you are buying for someone one else especially a child you may want to take it out of the box and set it up and repack it before giving it to them
